Shannon Pondella

Owner and Trainer

Shannon Pondella, owner and creator of surface fitness, earned her Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Exercise Science. She has also earned her Certified Personal Trainer certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Along with her personal trainer certification, she has also earned her Youth Fitness Specialist, Fitness Nutrition Specialist and Corrective Exercise Specialist certification.

She specializes in sport specific training, team training and injury prevention sessions. Not only is Shannon at the gym teaching fitness classes and private sessions, she is also running physical education programs at many local preschools and elementary schools in the area. Her strong passion for helping children started in sports facilities and on the field. Whether it is a personal training session or a group class, she knows and indulges in the importance of helping children and providing a foundation for a lifetime of physical activity and good health.

Shannon’s favorite ways to move are running, hiking, spinning, swimming, circuit training and pilates!

Jacqueline Meneses

Jacqueline Meneses graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and an emphasis in Applied Fitness & Active Lifestyle. Jacqueline began working with children by taking a Children’s Motor Development class where she taught ages seven to eight year olds physical education. She has also taught many clients with disabilities in aquatic therapy at The Brown Center of Achievement. Jacqueline started teaching youth fitness classes at surface fitness in February 2016 and also teaches physical education at elementary schools with the surface fitness team. Her passion to promote active lifestyles for children began at a young age when exercise helped pain relief with her scoliosis. She encourages children to be physically active and live a healthy lifestyle into adulthood!

Jacqueline loves to do different activities on her spare time. She loves to do pilates, yoga, spinning, running, exercising at the local gym and go hiking. During the summer, she loves to wakeboard and snowboard during the winter. Her hobbies include traveling, DIY crafts, and finding new coffee shops!

Michelle McCauley

Michelle McCauley

Michelle McCauley, a Glendale native and former high-level softball athlete, has implemented sports specific principles into her current training methods at surface fitness. Michelle graduated from AIU earning her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Her passion for working with children began when she started working in local daycare centers. Michelle has a fun and energetic personality that caters to her younger cliental, ages 3-6 and her enthusiasm and experience allows for fun and productive sessions that you won’t want to miss.

Michelle’s favorite ways to move are hiking, running and working out at surface fitness!

Alex Husmann

Alex Husmann

Alex Husmann recently graduated from UC Santa Cruz, earning her Bachelor's degree in Philosophy with a minor in Math. Alex's passion for working with children began when she started babysitting in middle school and only grew over time as she also worked as a summer camp counselor in the High Sierra and as a tutor. She is also dedicated to and enjoys leading a fit and healthy (and vegan!) lifestyle and wants to share this love with those around her.

Some of her favorite activities are hiking, pilates, dancing, kickboxing, rock climbing, circuit training, and spending time with her family! She looks forward to helping children find and develop their love for fitness and health while also providing a safe space for them to build their confidence, discover new things about themselves, make friends, and have fun!
